Environment Design

When Brand Bureau first started almost 8 years ago, our intention was lofty but simple– to bring together creative strategy, great branding, and smart design under one roof, and to offer this interdisciplinary expertise to clients of all stripes, from national to local brands, first-time founders to seasoned entrepreneurs. It was our way of introducing design thinking to more people, making their everyday just a little more hospitable.
“We believe that people will always have a fundamental need to gather – to live, eat, shop, and experience physical spaces. It’s in our nature. But just how clients and brands build and create will be different.”
While our intention remains the same, how we deliver on that intention has naturally evolved over the years as our teams developed, our projects expanded, and our experience broadened. Then 2020 happened, and we understood that evolution, now more than ever, would be critical to our ongoing success. To that end, we’ve been hard at work behind the scenes re-evaluating what we do and how we do it.
The pandemic completely upended the hospitality and design industries (read more about our thoughts here and here), and while we knew the challenges with brick and mortar spaces would be temporary, we also knew that the way we work, and the way our clients wanted to work, would never be the same. If there were any silver lining to be had, it was that we were presented with a unique opportunity to rethink our design approach altogether. We asked ourselves: What are our clients really looking for in a creative partner going forward? How can we best meet that need? How can we be more nimble, agile, and responsive?
“We’re deconstructing the design process to be more approachable and malleable…to help clients experiment and explore, spatialize, visualize, and validate.”
We believe that people will always have a fundamental need to gather – to live, eat, shop, and experience physical spaces – in some way, shape, or form. It’s in our nature. But just how projects get from point A to point B will be different: leaner budgets, quicker turnarounds, less permanence, more experimental.
And so Environment Design was born. It is an evolution of our foundation in both architecture and interiors, where strategic design thinking and creative expertise push towards a new vision of how we work in a post-pandemic world. We’re deconstructing the design process to be more approachable and malleable, acting as designers, collaborators, and creative advisors to help clients experiment and explore ideas, spatialize, visualize, and validate physical concepts – to put things in perspective. We apply traditional design know-how to non-traditional design challenges, from living spaces to leisure spaces, imaginary spaces to real ones. It’s everything from early stage feasibility studies and site selection to translating brand values into a physical space, or establishing a clear creative north star through blue sky visioning, scalable solutions, and design guidelines.
